Koromiko is a native shrub known for its slender leaves and white or pale purple flowers.
Appearance:
- Narrow, pointed leaves
- Clusters of small tubular flowers
- Upright shrub form
Growth:
- Leaves 3–8 cm long
- Grows 1–3 m tall
- Prefers well‑drained soils and sunny positions
Uses:
Often planted for erosion control and as a pioneer species in restoration projects, Koromiko is best planted in dry zones outside of seasonal flood zones. It's a great native species to plant on erodible hillslopes and in the transition zone between hillslopes and floodplains.
Cultural & Historical Notes:
Māori used Koromiko tradionally as rongoā (medicine), especially for digestive health and healing wounds.
