Te Toa Whenua – Restoring Our Land, Revitalising Our Future

Te Toa Whenua is a bold vision for the ecological restoration of 900 hectares of whenua, returned to Te Roroa through the Treaty of Waitangi Settlement. This restoration will create an ecological corridor, protect culturally significant archaeological sites, and establish sustainable land use from the Waipoua Forest to the Waipoua River and northward to Maunganui Bluff.

This whenua holds deep intergenerational importance. Restoring it—and the Waipoua River—has long been a goal of our people, forming the second phase of Te Roroa’s Cultural Redress journey.

Te Toa Whenua represents more than land restoration; it is a symbol of kaitiakitanga in action and a potential blueprint for future iwi-led restoration projects.

Te Toa Whenua Nursery was created to tautoko this vision. We source our seeds from the Waipoua Forest, propagate and grow a range of natives to supply and support our own restoration goals, as well as those in the surrounding rohe.

When you buy from us, you're supporting the continuation of this vital mahi.
